Obstetriwise was created in 2020 by Danish obstetrician Kamilla G. Nielsen, with the aim of sharing obstetric knowledge and promoting natural vaginal birth.

The webinars and workshops are designed for healthcare professionals from around the world.

Topics range from birth planning with women/couples experiencing fear of childbirth, to the implementation of strategies that reduce interventions during labor. Kamilla teaches ultrasound, use of the rebozo technique, manual rotation during labor, emergency obstetrics in clinic/home birth settings, as well as how to address fear of childbirth and understand the laboring woman’s needs in challenging situations.

A central focus is the teaching of upright breech birth, based on Shawn Walker’s flowchart—a blend of theory and practice.

Since 2024, Kamilla G. Nielsen has worked as an obstetrician at the maternity ward in Slagelse. Previously, she was part of the team at the maternity unit in Aabenraa, Southern Jutland, where many of the methods were developed. Aabenraa’s unit has worked actively over several years to reduce birth interventions. It is also a department that prioritizes strong teamwork between doctors and midwives, creating a safe and supportive environment for birthing women. The unit has the lowest cesarean section rate in Denmark—13.5%.

The elective cesarean rate is just 3.5%, and instead, significant effort is put into developing detailed birth plans that women can feel confident about. The department also scores well in patient satisfaction according to national LUP surveys.
